πŸ’š Open Your Heart: Balancing the Heart Chakra

Hi Reader,

We have been having a fair bit of rain this week, perfect for curling up with a book and a cup of tea, currently Babylonia by Costanza Casati, or rewatching Ted Lasso for the feel-good vibe.

With Valentine's Day this week, looking into the heart chakra would be timely. Leaning into love is a needed balm at the moment. Energetically speaking, the heart chakra connects the lower three chakras with the upper three chakras.

It's where emotional attachment and love in all its forms are held within the chakra system.

This is where you balance your ability to give and receive love. It is the home for the energy we use when interacting on an emotional level with others, as well as how we manage our emotions internallyβ€”allowing our emotions to move through us, not in a controlling or disruptive way but in a way that acknowledges their existence- rather than pushing them down or ignoring them.

When we connect with the power of this chakra, we give and receive love freely – no strings attached. Often easier said than done in our lived experience. This is where you hold self-acceptance, which is the foundation we build upon to love others.

The expression of a well-balanced heart chakra presents as healthy, balanced emotional attachments with others. There's also the ability to see the good in others as well as in yourself.

This is also where forgiveness and compassion flow from, both for yourself and others(nudge, nudge on the compassion for yourself - most of us are pretty hard on ourselves).

The heart chakra is the center of the chakra system. This is where you integrate duality.

Things like mind/body, light/shadow, male/female, and individuality/connection are all harmonized here.

Blocks in the heart chakra can result in:

Persistent thoughts of:

β€’ Being unloved

β€’ Something missing

β€’ Having been tricked or fooled

β€’ Not being able to β€˜get enough’ of someone

β€’ Not wanting to share(things, time, people)

Patterns of behavior:

β€’ Possessiveness

β€’ Seeking outside approval

β€’ Jealousy

β€’ Martyrdom

β€’ Distrusting of others

In many cases, an underactive heart chakra can show up in the form of a lack of compassion, martyrdom, possessiveness, a cold, distant demeanor, and/or a persistent feeling of being unloved. It can also manifest in the form of constantly looking to validate yourself externally.

An overactive heart chakra can exhibit itself as angry, jealous, or stingy behavior. It can also be exhibited as distrust of others and a pervading feeling of being taken advantage of. An overactive heart chakra can also result in suffocating others with β€˜love’.

A regular scan of your chakras can help to balance and maintain them. If you're noticing some of these issues, taking a few minutes to balance your heart chakra and do some grounding can help to shift the energy and bring you back into harmony.

There is free chakra-clearing audio on my website if you need a little guidance.

The Energy of You Volume XX Issue #33 Hi Reader, Last year, a client came to me feeling completely stuck. She was approaching retirement but found herself in freeze mode when it came to making decisions, and it was delaying her retirement. She came to me to work on her fears around finances and getting herself unstuck. Together, through Webwork and coaching, we untangled the old stories that kept her paralyzed. That got her making the decisions she needed to make and she entered into her...

Forest path with exposed roots and autumn leaves

The Energy of You Volume XX Issue #32 Hi Reader, September has sped by, full calendar, full mind, full days. It had me thinking about something I return to again and again when life gets busy: foundation. When everything feels a little chaotic, it is your inner stability, your energetic roots, that help ground and steady you. Have you ever noticed how a walk on the beach or sitting under a tree makes you feel calmer and steadier? That's your root chakra in action, quietly anchoring you to...

Beach scene with distant city skyline and ocean waves

The Energy of You Volume XX Issue #31 Hi Reader, The level of collective stress in the world is overwhelming right now. The divisiveness. The fire hose of information and misinformation that floods us daily. The uncertainty that makes our world feel like a volcano about to erupt, and our nervous systems are showing it. This creates static in our energy systems. Functioning in this state is exhausting. It's hard to focus and even harder to truly relax. As women navigating midlife in turbulent...
